OVERVIEW

Planned and executed the follow program at the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA):

On the occasion of the UMMA exhibition The Power Family Program for Inuit Art: Tillirnanngittuq, UMMA invites you to enjoy a selection of documentary and fictional films about Inuit culture. The lineup includes a documentary by Annette Mangaard: Kinngait: Riding Light into the World, about how the isolated Inuit community of Kinngait (Cape Dorset) became the internationally celebrated art capital of the North; renowned filmmaker Zacharias Kanuk’s Maliglutit (Searchers) is an Inuit reimagining of John Ford’s classic western, The Searchers; Susan Gray and Linda Matchan’s documentary, Circus without Borders, about two world-class acrobats from remote parts of the world who come together to help Inuit and Guinean youth achieve unimaginable success while confronting suicide, poverty, and despair; and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril’s documentary, Angry Inuk, which examines the negative impact of controversial Canadian seal hunt protests by animal rights activists on Inuit life.
